Padma Multipurpose Bridge.
The Padma Bridge is across
the river Padma in Bangladesh. It is a multipurpose bridge. It connected Mawa
of Munshiganj with Janjira of Shariatpur. Linking the south west of the country
to the northern and eastern regions. Padma Bridge is a two lever truss bridge. It carries
four lane highway on the upper level and a single rail line on the lower level.
It is 6.5 km long and 18.18 meter wide. It has total 42 pillars and 41 steel
spans. It is the longest river crossing in the South Asia. China Major Bridge
Co. Ltd is the contractor of this bridge.
Construction of this bridge was a great challenge for Bangladesh. But the
dream has turned into reality through the hand of Prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
It was completely opened for crossing all kind of vehicles on 25 June 2022. It
is expected that this bridge will play a vital role in the social, economic
development of the country. We Bangladeshi are proud for this amazing bridge.
